Theater in the Meadow: Dancing at Lughnasa

Aug 24th 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm
Meadow Stage at Icicle Creek Center for the Arts - 7409 Icicle Rd. Leavenworth, WA 98826

The year is 1936.  The place is a rural cottage in Ballybeg, Ireland, home to the five husbandless Mundy sisters who pine for their forays to the pagan Festival of Lughnasa, where Irish men and women dance and sing with dervish delight.  There is a young boy, a malaria-stricken missionary brother, and an Irish playboy who arrives once a year to re-claim the heart of the young boy’s mother.  Through it all, there is humor and sadness, eight engaging characters, each with a unique story, and lots of beautiful Irish music, songs, and dancing to make you smile and warm your Irish heart.

Winner of the 1991 Olivier and the 1992 Tony for best play and many other theater awards, Dancing at Lughnasa will thrill you with this simple story as narrated by the young boy’s older self.  Directed by Artistic Director of Theater, S. Henry Hettick, and starring an all-star cast, including Patrick Murphy, Louise Simons, Shari Hagopian, Briar Hoper, Kailen Duffield, Olive Ryan, JJ Hernandez, and John Ryan.

Bring warm dress for the second half when mountain temperatures can creep in.  You’ll love “Dancing at Lughnasa” (LOO-nuh-suh) as thousands have done before you.  This show has some adult themes and mild profanity, but is appropriate for a young audience five and older.
